The reason why the trap is able to catch multiple mice in a single night is because the ingenious way that it resets itself after each mouse caught.
The mouse walks to the end of the plank, the plank falls out from underneath it sending the mouse into the bucket. Then the trap immediately resets itself, ready for another victim.
You will need a 5 gallon bucket, which you can fill with water to kill the mice, or leave empty to work as a live trap.

How does Walk the Plank Mouse Trap Work?
The concept and design for this trap is so simple.
Place the trap on the edge of a bucket. It is designed to fit perfectly on any standard 5 gallon bucket.
Place a piece of wood as a ramp from the floor to the trap. It is best to attached it to the back of the trap as shown and not the side. The mice will use the ramp as leverage and steal bait.
Smear the bait, peanut butter, all over the end of the blank plank so the mouse is encouraged to walk to the end of it.
You can see in the second picture how the trap will tip as mouse walks out and attempts to eat the peanut butter.
Once the mouse falls into the bucket the trap is weighted so that it will tip back into place, making it reset and ready for another mouse.
The key part of the trap is the magnet placed underneath the base of the plank. This combined with a few set screws allows you to set the sensitivity of the trap. Some mice are larger and some are smaller. You want the sensitivity of your trap to be such that the mouse can make it nearly to the end of the trap. If they are on the end of the trap when it tips there is nearly a 100% chance they get caught.
Making the trap a kill trap.
If your intent is to kill the mice all you need to do is put enough water in the bottom of the bucket that they cannot touch the bottom and they will drowned.
Making the trap a live trap.
If you want a live trap then you simply need to put just a small amount of water, something like a 1/2 inch, in the bottom of the bucket so they cannot jump out. Not every mouse would be able to jump out of an empty 5 gallon bucket, but believe it or not some of them can and will.
